The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. It's message is based on the Bible. It's ministry is motivated by the love of God. It's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Majors Von and Linda Vandiver were appointed leaders of The Salvation Army of Siouxland in July of 2008 after spending time at The Salvation Army’s Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Division in Milwaukee, WI. They have also served the Salvation Army in Muskegon, MI and Alton, IL.
Major Von Vandiver has extensive experience in disaster work, serving most recently to assist flood victims in the 2011 Missouri River Flood that affected the Siouxland community, as well as serving numerous other disasters over the last 20 years. Major Vandiver serves as the Chairperson of the Siouxland Collation to End Homelessness, which is working to end homelessness as we know it in Siouxland. The major holds a Bachelor's degree from Western Governor's University and is graduate of The Salvation Army's College for Officers Training in Chicago.
Major Linda Vandiver education and experience have encompassed work in science, nursing, and religious studies. Here in the Sioux City Corps, Major Linda is the worship leader, bible study teacher and works with children in the after school programs and women’s ministries. Major Linda's programming efforts extend beyond Sioux City as she is also very involved in Divisional and Territorial work as well. Major Linda attended the Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis, Olivet Nazarene University and is graduate of The Salvation Army's College for Officers Training in Chicago.
Together, Majors Von and Linda desire to deliver programs and services that help meet the needs of the least, the lost, and the hurting in Siouxland, and to assure people that God loves them and has a plan for them.
